Who We Are

ADMARC was established as a statutory corporation under chapter 67.03 of Laws of Malawi 1971.

Up to 1987 ADMARC was a sole buyer of smallholder produce. This monopoly was removed with a controlled liberation of agricultural trade.

The Agricultural Development and Marketing Corporation Act (1971) was repealed in December 2003. Following the repeal,

ADMARC was incorporated as a limited liability company, with Government owning 99% of the shares.

Organizational set-up

The company has a three-tier set-up composed of the Head Office, 11 Divisional Offices, and 240 Unit Market Offices. The head office is located in Limbe, headed by the Chief Executive Officer with three Directors heading Finance, Operations and Corporate Affairs. The 11 Divisional Offices, through the 240 markets, coordinate all primary marketing which includes buying Agricultural Commodities from both traders and smallholder farmers and concluding local sales. The 240 permanent established unit markets are supplemented by 119 seasonal markets, established on a need basis for the purpose of buying or selling. All produce purchased at the 240 markets are aggregated at 9 major depots across the country. ADMARC owns the largest storage facilities in Malawi, totaling 300,000 square meters for product storage and provides commercial storage facilities

As part of its export drive, ADMARC Limited has invested in value addition infrastructure, these include; 3 cotton ginneries in each geographic region of the country, 2 dhal processing plants, a rice mill and a groundnut factory.

Commodity trading in both local and export markets is coordinated by the marketing office based at the head office. The department is responsible for business development and determining the market requirements for various crops.
